Overview
ERA is a national association of the leading developers of environmentally impaired
properties. Its goals are:
- To serve as a balanced national leadership group that can speak with authority on the
issues surrounding the redevelopment of environmentally impaired property, or brownfields.
- To provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas about the development of
brownfields.
- To educate the owners of environmentally impaired real estate, as well as the general
public, about the concept of environmental redevelopment and to promote the free market
for the disposition and development of environmentally impaired property.
- To give voice to the interests of environmental redevelopers, including advocating
programs to enhance the availability and marketability of environmentally impaired real
estate.
ERA is currently engaged in the following principal activities:
- Educating the market about brownfields redevelopment, including the promotion of the
sale of brownfields to environmental redevelopers as a desirable risk-reduction strategy.
- Publicizing successful brownfields redevelopment projects, including the benefits and
results of such projects.
- Publicizing the benefits of environmental redevelopment, including urban or community
renewal, increasing employment and tax base, and enhancing public health and safety.
- Promoting industry views with US EPA, The White House, Congress and other federal
agencies, including providing comments on proposals affecting industry.
- Disseminating information to ERA members about EPA proposals, policy initiatives,
proposed legislation, rulemakings, budget items, tax incentives, and other governmental
matters affecting the industry.
- Educating ERA members about developments affecting the industry, including SEC
reporting, tax incentives, financing, and insurance.
- Providing input for industry consensus standards (i.e., ASTM, ISO)
- Collaborating with other industry groups, such as National Association of Manufacturers,
Chemical Manufacturers Association, American Bankers Association, to promote industry
goals.
